There are currently more than a few different methods which can be safely utilized to speed up orthodontic tooth movement. One method is a multi-disciplinary approach where the periodontist works with the orthodontist to surgically create osteotomies between the roots of the teeth. This technique was initially known as "Wilckodontics", but is now referred to as Assisted Osteogenic Orthodontics (AOO). A second method involves less invasive surgery which creates micro-fractures in the bone near the teeth using a handheld driver like Propel Orthodontics' Excellerator. A third method utilizes energy from low level vibration or micropulses as seen with the OrthoAccel®'sAcceledent Aura. Most recently Biolux has introduced OrthoPulse® which uses photobiomodulation technology or low intensity near infra-red light to gently facilitate orthodontic tooth movement. Be sure to ask Dr. Pesh which accelerator system is right for you!
